Your Procedure
Breast reduction can be performed as an outpatient procedure in most cases, meaning that you will be able to return home the same day, but will need someone to drive you and care for you for a day or two. You will be under general anesthesia for the procedure, so you will sleep through your breast reduction surgery.
Dr. Galante performs breast reduction in Indiana to remove excess skin, fat and tissue from the breast. During the surgery, the nipple will also be repositioned, and if desired, the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple) can be reduced. The breast is then reshaped to create a physically smaller and natural looking breast. Dr. Galante will determine the best surgical procedure for your desired result during your consultation.

During your consultation at Dr. Galante's office, you will be able to discuss your goals and any concerns you may have with complete confidentiality. Dr. Galante will discuss all of your options for surgery and possible outcomes. Dr. Galante will encourage you to ask questions. Bringing pictures, of breast sizes and shapes that you like, to share with the doctor can be very helpful.
Recovering from Breast Reduction in Indiana
After surgery, you will have stitches and possibly drainage tubes to drain off any excess fluids. Your breasts will be bandaged for support and to protect the stitches. You will be given detailed instructions about keeping the incisions clean, and the stitches will be removed within the first week. You will need to wear a surgical bra until the swelling and bruising is reduced. Recovery from breast reduction surgery is usually less painful than most women expect. Because the nerves and skin have been stretched considerably for a long period of time, there is less sensitivity and consequently less pain. You will be sore for a few days, and medication can be prescribed to manage any discomfort. Light activities can be resumed after a few days depending on the level of soreness you feel.
Scarring from breast reductions is inevitable and permanent, but most women who have breast reductions in Indiana are so happy with the results of the reduction, they don't mind the scarring.
Because of the health problems that can result from significantly large breasts and because of the benefits of breast reduction surgery, some insurance companies will cover part or all of the procedure expense. It is your responsibility to check with your insurance carrier for coverage and benefit information. If your insurance does not cover the procedure or if you are uninsured, we offer links to patient financing online.
Not everyone is a candidate for breast reduction. Having realistic expectations about the impact surgery will have on your life is important.
