Cervicoplasty (also known as a neck lift) is one type of facial plastic surgery performed by Indiana plastic surgeon, Dr. Gus Galante. Dr. Galante removes unwanted fat deposits and excess skin to sculpt and tighten the neck line creating a more youthful, healthy appearance. During your consultation, Dr. Galante will explain the procedure and his technique in detail. He will examine your neck and chin checking for fat deposits, muscle and skin tone. Dr. Galante is very personable, and he will encourage you to ask questions about the procedure.

At our Indiana cosmetic surgery offices, neck lifts are performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you will be able to return home the same day. Neck lifts can be performed under general anesthesia, meaning you will sleep through the procedure or with local anesthesia and sedation, meaning you will be awake and comfortable for the procedure. Typically, neck lift procedures take approximately one hour.

Neck lift surgery requires a very small incision in the chin. Dr. Galante can carefully place the incision in a natural crease to reduce the visibility of the scar. Using tumescent liposuction, Dr. Galante injects the fat deposits with a saline solution, making extraction less traumatic to the surrounding tissue. The solution contains a local anesthetic and adrenaline, which helps reduce bleeding during the procedure. A very thin tube, called a cannula, is inserted through the incision to suction out the fat deposits. When a larger amount of excess skin needs removal and tightening, additional incisions may be necessary under the chin or behind the ear lobes. The excess skin is then removed and the incision is sutured and bandaged.

After your neck lift at the surgicenter used for our Indiana plastic surgery procedures, you will be given a compression band to wear around your neck for one week to keep your neck firmly shaped. Your neck may feel sore and stiff for a few days following the surgery. Bruising and swelling are also normal reactions after a neck lift. Dr. Galante may give you antibiotics to prevent infection at the incision site, and pain medication can be prescribed for any discomfort you may experience.

Many Indiana neck lift patients return to work and light activities a week after surgery. Bruising and swelling will gradually subside over a two to three week period.
