This 46 year old patient decided it was time for a change and wanted to recontour her breasts. While breast surgery is popular among twentysomethings and young mothers, it's also very common to see women in their 40s and 50s considering breast augmentation. Indiana women want to look good and feel comfortable in clothing and bathing suits no matter what their age. After raising a family, establishing a career, or going through big changes in their personal relationships, many mature women feel that breast enlargement is a great way to do something to pamper and take care of themselves.

At her consultation, I noted that this patient had mild ptosis (sagginess of the breast), but recommended only breast enlargement, not enlargement combined with breast lift, to avoid additional scars and surgery. After she was placed under general anesthesia, I performed her breast augmentation surgery at a local Indiana outpatient surgery center. To achieve symmetry, she and I decided on a 300cc smooth round moderate profile saline implant on the right and a 325cc implant on the left.

So that her augmentation would look as natural as possible, I placed the implants in the subpectoral position (under the muscle). This placement location gives the breast a slope that looks more natural, though recovery time is slightly longer than when implants are placed under the breast tissue. The patient's inframmamary incision is hidden in the crease under her breast.
